It's an Attack?

When “bad” things happen in our lives, who says they are “bad” things? Why would I put a label on the circumstances of my life? Am I being “attacked” by an enemy (Satan, for example); am I being “tested” (by God, for example)?

If I know and embrace the truth that my life is unfolding exactly as it should, then no circumstance in my life is happenstance, a test, nor an attack. I embrace every step of my path. I am learning and growing in my spiritual life with every step I take. “It’s ALL good” is a truism.

Why should I be upset or fight against the circumstances of my life? Why would I label them as “bad,” “a test,” or “an attack”? Every step is a learning and growing experience. My response is the point to all of the steps of my life. It’s my response that matters. Can I live with acceptance, with joy, and continue in peaceful serenity? That is my call; that is my assignment.

Who I am and how I respond in the midst of every circumstance in my life is what is important. Keeping the focus on my own behavior – my mind and heart are called to remain at peaceful rest and trust at all times. And that is the challenge!

Raised on a dairy farm in upstate NY, I learned to work hard along with my five siblings. I grew up in a very conservative Mennonite-Amish church which shaped a lot of my fundamental core values and beliefs. After moving to Florida to attend college, I married and became mother to five children. Eventually, my unmanageable life came to a crashing halt and I found my way into an Al-Anon recovery program. Recovery has affected every area of my life and I love sharing the things I am learning with others so that they might also find hope for their own recovery.
