On The Subject Of Love: Doing Or Being

30 September 2016 Written by

Richard Rohr’s meditation today starts with these words: “Love is not something you do; love is Someone you are.” I don’t DO love, I AM love. True love emanates from Source within. If I am not connected to Source, then how could I possibly love?

If I am not connected to Source, then what I do becomes just noise. I Corinthians chapter 13 calls it being a “noisy gong or a clanging cymbal,” further saying that without Love, I am nothing. Unless the power of Love is flowing through my actions and my words, it doesn’t count at all!

I am reminded of Mother Teresa’s words that “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” The fact is, whatever I do from the flow of Love – even just a smile – will always be profitable and fruitful because Love never fails. But whatever I do just to DO, without the flow of Love behind my action, will just fall to the ground without life.

The most important thing I do every single day is to get connected to Source. Without that connection, there can be no flow of Love in my words and actions.

Amy T.

Raised on a dairy farm in upstate NY, I learned to work hard along with my five siblings. I grew up in a very conservative Mennonite-Amish church which shaped a lot of my fundamental core values and beliefs. After moving to Florida to attend college, I married and became mother to five children. Eventually, my unmanageable life came to a crashing halt and I found my way into an Al-Anon recovery program. Recovery has affected every area of my life and I love sharing the things I am learning with others so that they might also find hope for their own recovery.
