Lighten Up

"Life isn't as serious as the mind makes it out to be." I really love these words by Eckhart Tolle. When did we stop enjoying our lives? When did we stop being silly and giggling? When did we stop playing? When did we get so terribly serious about everything?

The closer I move to the Divine, the more I sense that wonderful sense of humor that exists there and in all of creation. Sometimes I just laugh out loud with my Beloved….we laugh together.

The monkeys in my mind want to torment me with their continual chatter – most of it useless words. That’s why I love to move to quietness, away from those chattering monkeys in my mind. Move toward the beautiful freedom and light and pure joy.

Smiling is one of the best ways I know to remind myself not to take my life so seriously.  Slow down, smile, smell the roses, look up at the sky, embrace my life with wide open arms.

Raised on a dairy farm in upstate NY, I learned to work hard along with my five siblings. I grew up in a very conservative Mennonite-Amish church which shaped a lot of my fundamental core values and beliefs. After moving to Florida to attend college, I married and became mother to five children. Eventually, my unmanageable life came to a crashing halt and I found my way into an Al-Anon recovery program. Recovery has affected every area of my life and I love sharing the things I am learning with others so that they might also find hope for their own recovery.
