Joy at the Gym

09 April 2015 Written by

There is a woman at my gym who always wears a pearl necklace in our exercise class. I love that about her! There’s another woman who always wears these cute sweatbands (and she’s in her 70’s). Another always wears 60’s sweaters. I love, love, love my gym

They are there with me in class every day – cheering each other on, groaning together, sweating, laughing, and flashing smiles across the room. What would my life be like without these wonderful women?

I love the diversity. I love the encouragement and positive energy. I love that we are busy taking care of ourselves and having fun doing it! I love that we don’t take ourselves too seriously. We know how to laugh at ourselves and accept each other right where we are.

I am most grateful today for the wonderful, positive, energetic women who are my best buds while I work out. Sharing my life with you is like filling my life full of bouquets of flowers.

Raised on a dairy farm in upstate NY, I learned to work hard along with my five siblings. I grew up in a very conservative Mennonite-Amish church which shaped a lot of my fundamental core values and beliefs. After moving to Florida to attend college, I married and became mother to five children. Eventually, my unmanageable life came to a crashing halt and I found my way into an Al-Anon recovery program. Recovery has affected every area of my life and I love sharing the things I am learning with others so that they might also find hope for their own recovery.
