Search Out A Meeting Together
Get to a new meeting together if you are in a new town or go to your own meeting. No matter what; be sure to find a meeting for your recovery. You are responsible for your own recovery. It is great to have a friend join you, but don’t rely on anyone else to get you to your meeting. It is too important. (Find 12 step and non-12 step meetings listed here.) If there are no meetings near you, have your own meeting, with just the two of you. All it takes to have a meeting is two people wanting to get better. Don't forget to look online for virtual meetings.
Make New Friends
Make new friends as a couple. Go early and hang around before and after the meeting to chat with other members. This is an easy way to find new friends. Take time to remember names of people you want to get to know better. Ask your partner who they liked and would like to get to know better. Having outside friends keeps a relationship fresh and gives you both a break from always having to be alone together. Healthy new friends also help keep you accountable.
Throw A Safe Zone Party
Invite others in the recovery community over for a swim or a BBQ. Create your favorite mocktail to go along with a great snack. Build a fire and play your favorite tunes in the background and be sure to leave enough room for dancing under the stars. Enjoy the feeling of having fun while sober and being present in the moment.
Take Action To Create Change
Use the famous saying, “Move a muscle, change a thought” to motivate you. Manifest the goals and dreams you have for yourself and/or your relationship. One action is to make a vision board where you can bring your prayers, desires, and meditations to life. The results from taking this simple step are amazing. No matter what; stay active and take action to keep your recovery safe while you both have a great summer together.
Reap the many benefits of a strong recovery program while you enjoy a summer full of love and friendship.
